Sligo Creek playgrounds, Great Wolf Lodge money saving tips and coffee please!
I took a two month break from Instagram - deleting the app for December and January! It was much needed time away. I found myself reading more and enjoying it! Since redownloading it, I find I continue to have a love/hate relationship with it. I love being inspired by other moms, getting ideas for my local list and our travel list and sharing content. But I also find it sucks up my time. I was super bummed when they went away from IG guides (which I spent time developing since there isn't a page search) and I easily fall into the comparison game, which isn't good for my mental health! This is part of why I chose to restart my blog and try out a newsletter! I wanted a space that is truly my own and I appreciate that you all have joined me. I hope you find it helpful and enjoyable!

The weather is getting nicer which means we spend a ton of time at various playgrounds (trying to get our 1000 hours outside)! I want to encourage you to check out Sligo Creek Parkway/trail in Silver Spring/Takoma! It's the perfect trail for biking, scootering, pushing a stroller, etc. It's also important to know that part of the driving road closes over the weekends, starting at 5 pm Fridays. My plan was to create a post that has the playgrounds along the parkway and also throw in some other ideas to pair them with (think coffee and treats)…but I got distracted and wrote my Great Wolf Lodge article instead with my money savings tips! So as not to leave you hanging, these are some faves along Sligo Creek with links to IG for more pics:
Sligo Dennis Park - great for climbers and it's new!
Hillwood Manor Neighborhood Park - playground is by a low spot in the creek and close to Aldi and Lidl
Blue Park, I mean Dale Drive Neighborhood Park - Some fun things for toddlers and the huge climbing net that now makes me nervous; try Love and Flour bakery with espresso drinks nearby
Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park - another newer park with two zip lines and access to the creek
Sligo-Bennington Park - three separate structures but the best part is you can take a short walk to Zinnia's for a treat!
I love my fancy lattes - it's definitely a thing for me! If it's not on your list, check out Compass Coffee on 4850 Massachusetts Ave - personally I enjoyed their seasonal cherry blossom latte! This location has a kids nook with books and a couple of toys! My friend brought coloring pads and markers for our meet up here and the girls enjoyed the space for an hour while we got to chat! That's a win in my book! And parking is free on Sundays!
If you're looking to pair coffee there with a park, Chevy Chase Recreation Center is nearby (10 mins drive)! It's fully fenced in, there's a bathroom and they have a fun splash pad in the summer! They also have a sand box. It's a must for all young kids - see pics on IG!
And if the weather isn't great and you have a little, check out Wisconsin Place Recreation Center! It's the one Montgomery County rec center (free for MoCo residents in 2024) that has a soft padded room for kids! Pics on IG!
Before I close out, I realized I left you hanging on my last newsletter! We're visiting two states and another country on our upcoming trip! And we're actually returning to my favorite city that we haven't been to since 2016! Anyone want to guess yet?!
